Where PetGuides gets its data.

PetGuides.au currently aggregates 1,500Australian pet-service businesses from public sources. Every record carries a 'sources' field linking back to its origin so you can verify it yourself.

OpenStreetMap is a community-mapped open dataset. We import the AU subset filtered by amenity=veterinary, shop=pet_grooming, etc. We respect the ODbL share-alike requirement on derived works.

LocalSearch records are used as public business-listing leads only: name, category, suburb, phone and source URL. PetGuides does not copy LocalSearch reviews, ratings or sponsored claims.

Refusals

Sources we will not use

  • Yellow Pages / TrueLocal / Hot Frog (competitor directories - terms forbid scraping)
  • Google Maps / Google Places (without a paid API + policy review per Google ToS)
  • Scraped reviews from any source (anti-fake policy)
  • Personal email harvesting (we do not collect business emails not publicly listed)

How to correct a record

Owners

Claim the listing at /claim/. Free.

Pet owners or non-owners

Email [email protected] with the page URL + correction. We respond within 5 business days.

Per-listing

Per-listing source provenance

Every BusinessCard on PetGuides carries a small source chip linking back here. Click the chip on any listing to see its source family, record ID, source URL where available, capture date and confidence score.
