How to evaluate a cat-friendly vet
Ask how the clinic handles frightened cats before you book. Useful signals include low-stress handling, calm carrier transfer, separate cat waiting space, quiet consult timing, towel handling, pheromone diffusers in exam rooms and staff awareness of Fear Free or feline-friendly handling principles. A general vet can be excellent with cats, but the directory record may not prove that yet.
Phone ahead for cats that hide, freeze, hiss, scratch or soil the carrier. Tell the clinic whether your cat is indoor-only, senior, diabetic, medicated, painful or overdue for vaccination. Ask whether you should wait in the car, use a covered carrier, bring urine samples or book a quieter time of day. The goal is not a fancy label; it is a safer visit with less stress for the cat and clearer information for the vet.
